Is There A Better PDF Reader Than Adobe?
I have an older eMachine desktop computer that I have used literally around the clock, for several years. It has held up remarkably well, considering the amount of time I have spent on it and the tasks it has performed. A few years ago I upgraded the RAM some, be even still, the total amount of RAM is paltry, in comparison to even the most basic, low end computers we have today.
My old eMachine desktop computer had been experiencing some overheating problems or performing thermal shutdowns and I had to remove the cover of the computer to inspect it. I live in a particularly dusty region of the United States and the fans, blowers and parts inside the computer had accumulated quite a bit of dust and dirt. So, I unplugged it and used some canned pressurized air to clean the computer out, the best that I could. What I believe was also contributing to some negative issues with my computer was the sheer amount of programs that can accumulate over time.
What Are PDF Files And What Are They Used For?
While reviewing the various programs in my Add/Remove programs list, in my computers control panel, I saw my PDF file reader program. PDF stands for: Portable Document Format. PDF Files are usually text files or documents that open up via your computer as opposed to a website. Sometimes for instance you can receive a Terms or Conditions document of some item you have purchased or perhaps a users guide booklet in the form of a PDF file. You save it or click on it and your computer's particular program opens it up for you to read. Oftentimes as you browse the internet and if you are searching for in-depth information or possibly a whole or partial book you will find that it will be in the form of a PDF file.
Is There A Better Free Alternative To Other PDF Readers?
Better, is a subjective word since everyone may have a different or specialized personal need. As I stated above I needed to see if I could get my older computer to perform better. That was my specialized personal need. I had been using an Adobe PDF reader. I noticed that even when my computer was running decently, my Adobe Reader would freeze or crash my computer while reading PDF files.
An Alternative Free PDF File Reader
After some researching I did find a free alternative to that particular PDF file reader. So far I have been more than pleased with the results. I removed the Adobe PDF reader from my list of programs in my control panel's Add/Remove program list and replaced it with a PDF file reader called: Foxit. It is ever so slightly slower in initially opening the PDF files in my opinion. But the final results are PDF files that I can easily read and it doesn't crash or freeze my older eMachine desktop computer.
